Big Swell
Acrylic Fast Flow Paint on Canvas
102cmx102cm deep canvas.
Starting with fast flow acrylic paint and pouring medium on canvas, I tilted the canvas, allowing gravity to give the paint the shape of waves. I included some metallic gold to represent stirred up sand and was very happy with the way it contrasted with the blues of the water. It still needed something to give a sense of scale to the sea so I included a surfer swimming out to catch the monster wave that seemed to be forming. I called the painting Big Swell in reference to the wave that hadn't yet broken and only later when it was hung realised the other funnier connotations with the surfer's bottom so obvious!
