Rainbows in The Umbrella Tree

Description

Watercolour, ink and gouache on 300gsm A1 Stonehenge watercolour paper

I was inspired by Annabel Armstrong's photographs of Rainbow Lorikeets that were posted on a free to use for artists site. The finished work is a combination of Annabel's references and my own and was an interesting challenge to balance the watercolour and ink drawing techniques together.

I love the pun of them enjoying the nectar of the Umbrella tree and have included a backdrop of the misty/rainy landscape that I often see looking out over the Lane Cove National Park. There are also two little honey bees foraging for nectar in the wet flowers.

The original and some limited edition prints are available.
